However, the British annexation of Tanjore in 1855 brought a decline in royal patronage, leading to reduced production of these exquisite textiles.

The creation of Karuppur textiles requires specialised expertise, as artisans apply resist painting with natural dyes to delicate Jamdani fabrics adorned with gold zari. This complex process involves meticulous handling during repeated cycles of boiling and washing to achieve the intended colours and designs, a balance only achievable by master artisans.
