Aksh began as a documentation project capturing the rich weaving traditions of Tamil Nadu, soon expanding across South India and the eastern coast to explore tribal and regional weaves. Inspired by the artistry of handloom and the struggles of artisans, we transitioned into weaving sarees that honored these timeless crafts. Our pursuit of deeper knowledge led to research on colonial trade’s impact on Indian textiles, eventually tracing back to the Vijayanagara Empire—the cradle of many artistic legacies. Today, we recreate the craftsmanship and techniques of this golden era, bringing its woven stories back to life.
