Nayaka Kalamkari stands as a remarkable testament to creativity, using the traditional techniques that defined the peak of Kalamkari artistry. Hand-drawn and resist-dyed with natural dyes, it showcases aesthetic brilliance through intricate craftsmanship and vibrant hues in these figurative painted textiles. Produced between 1500-1700, these textiles offer unique insights into the cultural, social, and political landscapes of their time. Extremely rare and beautiful, the original pieces, created centuries ago, are proudly held in the collections of many museums and collectors. Classified as “Early Coromandel Textiles,” Nayaka Kalamkari is believed to have originated in the central Coromandel region, particularly around Pulicat and its hinterlands.
